Miss. Bueckert's look into Visual Literacy aka. Infographics (TT#9)

Nike says to, "Just do it!" Disney Land is the "Happiest place on earth!" I'm sure that even reading those slogans bring pictures to your mind. With Walmart, I can picture how my local store is laid out and associate Walmart with the colour blue. When I hear Nike's saying, I picture the running shoes my sister wears and think about my exercise routine. When I think of Disney Land, I can picture the Sleeping Beauty Castle and Minnie and Mickey waving at everyone as they pass by. These images are in my head for a reason; because I have seen commercials and have seen signs for these places throughout my travels. Along with commercials and other visuals, a new phenomenon has come into play; infographics. I

I promise, that quote was written at the top of my blog on purpose. When we think about the word fair trade, we often associate it with food. Although that is true, there is a lot more to fair trade than just food. Here in Canada, we have stores called Ten Thousand Villages which sells fair trade items such as jewelry and pottery. I work at Portage MCC on Saturday's which sells fair trade jewelry, chocolate, and coffee. I am sure that there are many businesses that sell fair trade however I want to shift my focus to something that

I fear lack of them"  -Isaac Asimov  https://cdn-res.keymedia.com/cms/images/us/039/0132_637324252136928732.jpg     Growing up, the phrase connected student wouldn't have had any meaning. I grew up in a time when the internet just started to be available here in Canada and it took a while for it to become available in my local school. Once it was available, my school did renovations to include a computer lab and each classroom had five computers installed into them for research purposes. I learned how to type in grade nine ICT class. I remember getting so frustrated and wanting to quit but I'm glad I didn't. Those typing skills have served me well, especially during my university journey. I graduated high school in 2014 and since that time, technology has become more widely available in classrooms. The classrooms I have student taught in have multiple forms of technology. From the smart board, to iPads installed with educational apps, to

"We get to live in a time that we get to use social media as a tool"-Gigi Hadid https://inteng-storage.s3.amazonaws.com/img/iea/rV6ndqlOXq/sizes/social-media_resize_md.jpg      When I was growing up, the words social media were never used collectively in a sentence to convey the meaning they do today. I remember when Facebook first came out and started to become popular. Many of my classmates talked about how their parents were getting it and some of them were going to beg their parents to get it. I talked to my parents and they were very much against the idea. I didn't get my account until I was in grade 12. I was so excited. I posted some of the silliest stuff. Shortly after high school, I got Instagram and it is now my most used social media platform. I'll be honest, I didn't get Twitter until this past year for this class and I still need to explore the platform further before making comments on it.       Social media has definitely changed the way we connec

An Educational Podcast I look forward to using in My Classroom (TT#7)

“The medium of podcasting and the personal nature of it, the relationship you build with your listeners and the relationship they have with you—they could be just sitting there, chuckling and listening…there’s nothing like that.”  - Marc Maron https://optinmonster.com/the-best-marketing-podcasts-to-boost-your-conversions/    https://www.abc.net.au/cm/rimage/10993030-1x1-large.jpg?v=7   Growing up, I remember reading books and books          about animals. I loved learning specifically about            dogs,   dolphins, and penguins. Fast forward to 2021,      children have access to research through a variety of        platforms. They can read books, watch YouTube              video, ask Alexa a question, google it, or listen to a          podcast. I would like to focus specifically on the last        medium I discussed. Podcasts have become                      increasingly popular in th

From using teacher's pay teachers to find classroom resources to meet curricular outcomes, to using YouTube videos to help further students understanding of  topic, internet resources have helped make my lessons fun and engaging for my students. When covid-19 first hit, I reached out to some of my friends who had children. I let them know that if they needed help with their child's homework, I would be willing to look it over and see how I could help. I was helping a young boy in grade 6 with his math homework. One routine that his teacher had in place was doing a math riddle at the beginning of each lesson. She sent students a link so that they cou

Contemplation of Kirsten Thompson's Discussion and a look at Digital Equity here in Manitoba

We started by looking at some articles/research on the topic of robots replacing classrooms. It was interesting to me because I have thought about this question before, however I have never actually voiced it out loud before. I have had friends who say that teaching is going to become obsolete as a result of the internet. As we got further along in our discussion, we started talking about how we should look at our school as an ecosystem and how each classroom is part of the ecosystem. In each ecosystem, there is biotic a

Miss. Bueckert's Digital Identity and Footprint and a look at resources on Digital Identity

“Tweet others the way you want to want to be tweeted.” ―  Germany Kent        This blog post looks at my own digital identity and footprint along with some reflection about why my digital footprint is the way it is.  Secondly, I will look at ho w to introduce the topic of digital identity into my own classroom. I will  end this blog post by  sharing several  YouTube  videos that I would consider using in my elementary classroom .           For this tech task, we were asked to google ourselves and see what the search engine has to say about me. Prior to  taking part  in this tech task, I hypothesized that I  would not  find much on myself and I will explain why. I have Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, Twitter, and Blogger accounts. I have put the privacy settings up as much as I can so that people can only see my profile picture on my Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest accounts. On Snapchat, I have my ' bitmoji ' available for view but my account is private and my l
